A Movember to Remember: Clearcover Supports Men's Health
The minute we handed out our last Reese's Pumpkin to trick-or-treaters, retailers emailed us their pre-Black Friday deals, the M&M's Santa commercial started to air, and light rock stations switched over to holiday music. Seemingly overnight, one of the busiest and most stressful times of year arrived. Along with the joy that the festivities of the season can bring, many of us are easily bogged down with our "to do" lists as we try to celebrate, shop, and wrap up the year at work.
As part of Clearcover's increased focus on employee mental health, we're determined to help all team members focus on the positive aspects of the holiday season.
One of the best ways to increase our happiness now, or at any time of year, is to give back, and science backs this up!
Stephen G. Post, director of the Center for Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care and Bioethics at New York’s Stony Brook University coined the term "giver's glow." He wrote that giving back, "doles out several different happiness chemicals including dopamine, endorphins that give people a sense of euphoria and oxytocin, which is associated with tranquility, serenity or inner peace.” We'll take some of that!
Kyle Natasksuji, Clearcover's CEO, knew he wanted to align with Movember, an organization that shares our culture's support of mental health.
Movember was formed to address the crisis in men's health by funding projects to engage men where they are to understand what works best and accelerate change. One of the areas of Movember's focus is men's mental health and suicide prevention.
Kyle and Clearcover take this cause especially seriously after losing one of our own employees, Isaac Moldofsky, to suicide in January 2020. To honor Isaac's memory and support the health of all men, we've formed our Clearcover Movember Team.
Initially, we set a fundraising goal of $5,000. But, only four days into November, Clearcover-ers had already stepped up and raised $7,216! Motivated by the generosity and commitment of our team members, we increased our goal to $10,000.
Spurred by our rocketing fundraising numbers, Kyle upped the ante again. If Team Clearcover reaches our $10,000 goal by Friday, November 12, he will continue to grow his mustache for the rest of the month. Then, when his 'stache is at its fullest, he will pose for a Step-Brothers-esque portrait with Clearcover COO, Derek Brigham.
With Kyle's additional motivation, everyone at Clearcover can find their ideal way to join the team and reach our goals for fundraising and leadership portraiture:
Grow a mustache
Beginning with a clean shave on November 1st, this is the traditional Movember contest. Will anyone be able to emulate staff-favorite Ted Lasso's (Ted Lasso) full and well-groomed 'stache? Perhaps one of us will go for a thinner and more refined Gomez Adams (The Adams Family) look?
Move for Movember
Team members who participate in this challenge will move 60 miles during November, one mile for each of the men who are lost to suicide each hour.
Mo Your Own Way
Clearcover-ers are encouraged to set their own challenge for the month in whatever way that will fit their schedule and make themselves feel good by giving back.
Make a Donation
Every dollar donated gets us closer to our new $10,000 goal!
As of this posting, over a dozen members of our staff have signed up for our team, we've received donations from many others, and we've surpassed our goal with $10,700 raised.
You can keep up with our progress and friendly 'stache-off by following us on social media. If you’d like to make a donation, you can do that here.
By giving back and supporting men's health this month, Clearcover continues our commitment to promote the mental health of all employees by focusing on increasing happiness during what can be a very overwhelming time of year.
Less than a week into our fundraising, Clearcover-ers have already stepped up and shown that we're always ready to come together as a team to reach our shared goals.
If you'd like to be part of the Clearcover team, we invite you to apply for one of our open positions.
