As we continue our series on Clearcover's Women in Technology, we spoke to Andrea Handel, a Senior Software Engineer who joined our team eight months ago. After a 20 year career in engineering, Andrea found the supportive work environment and fun culture she was looking for at Clearcover. Here she tells us a little about her career journey and imparts some words of advice for other women engineers.

Please tell us a little about your career path and what led you to Clearcover.

I’ve been an engineer for about 20 years. I love working for startups and smaller companies with a healthy and fun culture. I was at my previous company for 13 years and was ready for a change. Clearcover is a perfect fit for that.

Who is a woman who mentored you or inspired you in your career?

Honestly, I’m inspired by all female engineers, especially those in leadership roles. I know how hard they have worked to get there.

What advice would you give to women engineers who are entering the workforce?

It’s going to be harder for you than for your male counterparts. You will be held to a higher standard. You will see qualified women passed up for roles that underqualified men seem to just slide into. Find a company like Clearcover that holds all employees to a high standard.

What drew you to apply to an opening at Clearcover?

I followed a co-worker here. He told me about [monthly home snack delivery from] SnackMagic and unlimited paid time off, and I was sold.

How has your experience at Clearcover so far differed from previous workplaces?

All of my coworkers are so competent! Leadership is great and so supportive of the engineers. The culture is fun and amazing. It’s so refreshing.

National Mentoring Day

At Clearcover, we value growth from within, and one way we support this is through our Future Summit Leaders program, hosted by our Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity Council (EIDC). Throughout March, Clearcover’s Women in Insurance and Technology (WIIT) Employee Resource Group went all out to celebrate 2024 Women's History Month with a jam-packed schedule of events to inspire and empower the women in our industry.

Clearcover's International Women's Day Panel: Building Confidence and Achieving Equity

To mark International Women's Day on March 8th, Women in Insurance and Technology (WIIT) at Clearcover hosted a panel focused around this year's theme, #EmbraceEquity. The discussion, hosted by WIIT members Kaitlyn Taylor, Director of Agency Accounts, and Catlin Finn, Senior HR Business Partner, featured inspiring women Clearcover-ers from across departments and at various leadership levels. All of the panelists imparted advice and knowledge gained from their years of experience while answering questions on a range of topics including professional development, the importance of mentors, building confidence, supporting other women, achieving equity in the workplace, balancing life as a working parent, and how women and men can better take care of themselves.

Clearcover's Perks Attract Job Seekers

At the conclusion of his job search last summer, Customer Advocacy Supervisor Joseph Cox received offers at various salary points. But for Joseph, like so many other job seekers, salary was not the final factor in his decision. Instead, Clearcover's perks and benefits ultimately led him to accept his current role.
