Unleashing the Rainbow: Pride Month 2023
At Clearcover, we are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in our workplace. As part of this commitment, our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) take the initiative to plan observation months throughout the year, including Pride Month. We are excited to share that our Sage Solace ERG, which stands for Sexuality and Gender Equality in a Safe Space, has organized a series of engaging activities to celebrate the spirit of pride in a meaningful way.
Starting June 1st, Sage Solace has launched a Pride-themed bingo board featuring a range of fun challenges. These challenges include watching a pride movie, creating a playlist, answering trivia questions, and more. In addition, we encourage our employees to participate in team-building activities by wearing the "color of the day" - the colors of the Pride flag - and sharing their pictures in our virtual photobook, #scrapbook, which holds memories of Clearcover-ers working from home.
We are proud to have a team of talented and dedicated professionals who are committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity in our workplace. One of these individuals is Joseph Foord, a Risk Analyst who has been with us for a year and a half and is a valued member of our Sage Solace group. Joseph played a pivotal role in planning our Pride Month celebrations, not only for the company, but also for our Customer Experience Culture team. He shared his personal experiences and insights on how pride integrates into both personal and professional life, inspiring our team to embrace the spirit of inclusivity and diversity.
As an active member of the SAGE Solace ERG, what does this group mean to you and how has it had an impact on your time here at Clearcover?
Sage Solace is a safe space for members of the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcomed, accepted and heard. This group has provided me with a place to express my true authentic self while sharing creative ideas, thoughts, solutions, experiences, struggles, fears, excitement and support when life has those more difficult moments. Through it all, I have discovered what it truly means to work for a company that supports my authentic self and have built a work community within the community.
How long have you been at Clearcover and what roles have had the biggest impact on your career?
I joined the Clearcover family December 2021 as a Customer Advocate I and most recently was promoted to a Risk Analyst in April 2023. I can’t say that either role has had a bigger impact over the other as both have challenged me in ways I made me rediscover a passion for the insurance industry and even more so the desire to dive deep into everything tech. I look forward to work each day and welcome change in any form as that fuels my fire and drive to be “better’er” not just in my career but in my personal life as well.
What does Pride month and being part of the LGBTQIA+ community mean to you?
This question made me think for a bit about what it truly means to be a LGBTQIA+ community member, ally, friend, and supporter. The support I received when my journey began provided me with the strength to be the person I am today; a member of a truly beautiful community, that has provided me the strength to become an ally and stand up for all members of the community including myself, that has provided me the wisdom to be a better friend and not shy away from opportunities that continue to uplift this community. Most of all the community has provided me with the courage to get involved in such a manner that I no longer feel shameful for. It has built me up and supported me in times when everything seemed unattainable, too far away to reach for and when I simply wanted to just give up. It made my journey of truly hating myself, become the journey of self-love, discovery, strength and unapologetically living life for me. Pride Month strengthens that for me each year and many alike.
We appreciate Joe for taking the time to take the initiative to help plan Clearcover’s celebration of Pride Month! We are proud of our commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and diversity, and we hope that these initiatives will help us celebrate the essence of pride in a fun and meaningful way.
